2009 Giant Defy 1

Giant's Defy 1 features an ALUXX SL aluminum frame with a carbon fork that offers light weight, cornering precision and stiffness for major power transfer. Shimano's 105 group and 10-speed drivetrain gives you plenty of hill-flattening gears and effortless shifting, and the frictionless Mavic wheels with Kenda tires are ready for any distance. Plus, the Giant Road saddle is super comfy, and Crank Brothers clipless pedals are included, too!

This my first road bike but my 3rd Giant. I'm very impressed with how it handles and how fast it can be. The bike itself is comfortable, but the seat is not.

    Comments:

Over the years I've ridden both steel and carbon fiber while shying away from aluminum due to its reputation for being harsh and unforgiving. When a local, potholed 62 mile loop beat me up on my 2003 Giant TCR C1 carbon bike, I sold it and looked for something more comfortable for all-day use. After testing several bikes, I was pleasantly surprised when I gave this all-aluminum frame a ride. I'm sure it's partially due to the carbon fiber seat post and front fork, but this bike rides like a dream. No problem riding all day, even the Giant brand seat is surprisingly comfortable. Shimano 105 group shifts well and no complaints with the crank either. It's nice this comes in a triple which helps for touring and hilly terrain. It's not as responsive as a racing bike but you'll still feel good after several hours of riding. Only two complaints - the wire-bead Kenda 25s are slow and harsh, I got rid of them immediately. Secondly, the CXP-22 rims are stout but you can improve your speed with some deeper-dish, aero-spoked replacements for a few hundred bucks. I did, and now I wouldn't trade this bike for anything. It's a steal!

Use it to complement other training endevours. Fast, light machine. And I haven't installed the clip pedals, yet. I've ridden my buddies' bikes that cost 3x as much, and they have nothing on this.

Where are going to find a bike with Aluminium/Carbon Fiber mix and racing components to race with ? Triples are tough to find & so is rack mounts in the rear.

Although I am just starting to explore biking after years of jogging which took its toll on the knees, I find the Defy 1 to be everything it was billed to be. It is very light yet absorbs even moderate bumps and road defects well. For the price point I am very pleased with the components which have functioned perfectly. I have been riding anywhere from 30 to 50 miles a week and recommend the Defy 1

          Comments:

I bought this bike in feb. I already put about 200m on my bike. Now that it's spring I'm finaly ready for some real riding. So far the bike has been better than I could have dreamed. The full 105 groupset is great for the price. The only thing I don't like that there are no compact gears. Trek,Cannondale and many others do for the price.
